What if the phone and internet is dead?

The thought itself is taxing. Isn’t? You cannot imagine not posting on your gram or retweeting that favorite tweet or watching a dozen YouTube videos. All this is now a part of our life just like any other chore. We all love spending several hours on the internet today just browsing through something that doesn’t really add any value to our lives. We are all used to having our phone in one hand that has replaced so many things like the watch, alarm clock, books, newspapers and many more.

Is it just you and me or are there others as well? There are approximately 5 Billion people using a mobile phone today. That is approximately equal to 66% of the world population(7.59 Billion as in 2018) and approximately 4 Billion people are on the internet. This number is huge and increasing.

With the cost of mobiles and internet services coming down day by day, the reach is high. The availability of these services is high meaning almost more than half of the population is able to afford these services today.

What Would Happen?

More bad than good? Or More good than bad? Let us find out.

Imagine the good old days when there was no internet or phone but still people from different places connected. May it be letters or telephone, communication would still happen. No doubt it would be slower than mobile phones but it wouldn’t die. Print media like newspapers, magazines would make a comeback. We would start reading them all over again. Digital media like TV and radio would impact our lives to a great extent.

E commerce would end. Everything online would end in no time. No buying and selling of goods online. No keeping up with trends. No FOMO(Fear Of Missing Out)

Travelling will be more fun without the need of constantly posting on social media and then keeping a track of comments, views and likes. People would travel to connect with nature rather than to collect pictures for their social profiles. Of course the ease of booking hotels online will not be there which can be again replaced with people and their experiences rather than viewing a couple or reviews and ratings online.

Its amazing to see the kind of change technology has brought about in our lives, the way we are just a click away from our closed ones who far away. It has not done only bad to our lives to be real. It has done us good too. From buying a gift to a loved one far away to all the business conferences that lead to major world decisions, internet has done a lot for us to bring people closer. But what is the way out? To use it or not?

Excessive usage and addiction as we all know have a lot of adverse effects on human body and sense organs that majorly cannot be reversed. Eyesight being one of the major ones. Next time use a pen and notebook to take down a note instead of writing it in your phone. Not everything really has a replacement but try as much as you can to reduce its usage. It will only prepare your for that day when phones and internet die. Just kidding!

Its not really impossible to live without mobile phones and internet but it will definitely be more exhausting to live without it now that they form a large part of our lives. We might as well rely on the internet but it’s just an wonderful way to talk to your granny for a solution because she definitely has an answer for your problem.
